Meaning, I think that readers who expressed concerns about the tool being tool small, based on its online product images, might change their minds upon seeing the impact in person. While incredibly compact, it doesn’t give off the same “impossibly compact” feeling as in the white-background product images. I’ve got a series of testing lined up for tomorrow, and so I should have some feedback on its feel and performance shortly. All I wanted to check for was to see if the new Dewalt 20V Max Atomic impact driver was too compact, and I really don’t think it is. Is it still possible to pin your trigger finger between the tool and something else? Of course – I’m sure there are obstructions or obstacles that can change things. Granted, I have medium-sized hands, but even users with larger hands should find ample trigger switch clearance. I can overlap two fingers to the first knuckle – there’s enough clearance where most people should be able to slide a finger over and away from the trigger switch. ![]() I depressed it slightly before releasing the pressure, which is why the light’s still on. In the photo above, my pointer finger is resting on the impact’s trigger, but not pressing it in. So, I wanted to see if I could or would pin my finger on flat surfaces. It’s not enough pay attention to the screw, you have to watch your trigger finger too! ![]() Oh my word, I’ve pinned my finger so many times. Michael Hammer’s comment stuck with me in particular: Self-Tapping Screw Mode is designed to reduce walking when starting self-tapping screws as well as reduce overdriving, breaking and stripping out screws. Here’s the question I tried to answer: should users be worried about potentially pinning their fingers between their tool and a work surface? When I posted a preview of the new Dewalt Atomic impact driver last month, a couple of readers expressed this as a valid concern. The 4-Mode DRIVE CONTROL provides greater control over output speed and power for greater versatility. For use with REDLITHIUM Compact Batteries or Extended Capacity Batteries (sold separately), which deliver more work per charge and more work over the life of the pack than competitive batteries on the market. REDLINK PLUS Intelligence is the most advanced Electronic system on the market, preventing damage to the tool and battery caused by overloading or overheating. The POWERSTATE Brushless Motor delivers up to 0-3,000 RPM with constant power output to drive screws faster. With Milwaukee's new FLUID-DRIVE Hydraulic Powertrain, users will experience up to 50% quieter operation, 3X less vibration for smoother operation and faster driving speeds compared to standard impacts. Hex Hydraulic Driver is the quietest cordless fastening solution on the market. You aren’t sacrificing power, the available space in tight spots is increased, comfortability is fantastic, and the durability is top notch. If you are torn between the two choices, without a doubt go with the 850. With the included 5Ah battery in this kit, it was just as forceful, if not moreso, than the 887. This was not the case for myself, however. Prior to owning the 850, I had read a couple reviews stating that the 887 did a better job with certain screws (headlok, deck, etc.). In pictures, it might not seem like that big of a deal to some but when space is needed, it’s a fantastic option! The 850 feels much more balanced due to its significantly shorter design. When you hold the 850, it feels much less awkward compared to the 887. (3 speed, 0-3800 impacts per minute, 20V) This kit comes with the ¼” impact driver, 5Ah battery, charger, toolbag, and belt clip.įor me, as a DIYer, it’s all about the comfort and long-term use. ![]() The DCF850 is a step-up compared to the DCF887 even though they have the same specs. This kit also includes all the essentials to get started right away. Excellent build quality, power, and comfort. If this would be your first impact driver then look no further. ~ Not worth the upgrade if you don’t need the driver’s space saving design. ~ Fantastic kit - perfect for DIYers or professionals alike.
